Color Inspiration Thursday: Scrimshaw

Clockwise from upper left: scrimshaw, STF Scrimshaw yarn,  vintage map, vintage beauties, french vanilla, antique lace

Scrimshaw is a wonderful neutral color reminiscent of carved scrimshaw, vintage photos and maps, and warm french vanilla / buttercream hues. It’s lovely on its own, but I created this tonal solid as an alternative color to white for colorwork and striped projects (when white might look too bright). Vanilla, almond, vintage paper, and antique lace ~ I love this color, and seeing what knitters do with it!

Ravelry projects, clockwise from upper left: CPAKnit’s CustomFit (with STF 2014 Club blue colorway), vparkerdesign’s Pull Me Over,  avidia’s Westie Hat (with STF Scarlett),  kari1276’s Elfe (with STF Bog Shadows), NutmegOwl’s Ten Below (with STF Purple Peacock & Neon Poppies), donnag’s Ice Cream Sundae (with STF Vortex)

and a few more Scrimshaw inspiration photos:

  1. What a lovely, subtle color! I think I sometimes get too absorbed in ‘color’ and neglect something so warm and neutral as this. Actually, I love all the inspiration photos and wonder how I could have passed it by!
