Grand Opening Weekend was … Grand!

Our entrance sign on Lee Highway / Route 211 in Sperryville, VA, with our upstairs neighbor, Cottage Curator (a beautiful photography and art gallery)

This past weekend was an exciting time around here: the official Grand Opening of my studio, gallery and shop space, Blue Ridge Artisans, in Sperryville, VA. What a fun and exciting weekend!

Blue Ridge Artisans Entrance and Deck (stay tuned for some furniture out here, for a great spot to sit, knit, visit 🙂 )

The space is a joint venture between myself and my partner, Dabney Kirchman,of Fine Art Felt. We each have our separate studio rooms, and a shared gallery-shop in the front. It’s a really great set up! We’re located in the lower level of the original school house building in Sperryville, VA, which is a wonderful, vintage space full of personality and character. Here’s a snapshot of the weekend:

Some wonderful surprises on Saturday were loads of knitters who came out from all over the DC metro area, and beyond! Three of my friends from high school drove out and surprised me with a visit, from the Silver Spring, MD area. My friend and dyer Dan Brewer and his fiancé, Chris came out for the afternoon and evening, too. Two of my Aunts, my Uncle, my cousin and her new husband also made it out for the day from Maryland. And my Aunts and cousin all purchased yarn and are going to learn how to knit (and have a competition to see whose knitting is the best haha).

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of any of these lovelies either in the studio, or at the dinner we all enjoyed afterwards.

Checking out the knitters (thanks to my friend Dorothy for snapping this shot and sending it to me 😀 ).
One of the visiting Knitting Groups. This one from the Warrenton / Manassas / Hay Market area, posted by Maria (mohoknitter) on Instagram, of their visit to the studio and lunch on the rooftop deck at the Thornton River Grille, just a short walk from the studio.
My brother, sister-in-law and their youngest daughter, from Maryland, surprised me on Sunday.
Knitting Buddies, also surprising me on Sunday, coming all the way from PA and MD

And, of course, have to break in the studio with some afternoon knitting 😀

In addition to all the Grand Opening loveliness, I also managed to finish my North Shore pullover, which is now blocking on the gallery floor:

North Shore, by TinCanKnits, in Spirit Trail Brigantia, “Werewolf in London,” “Corfu,” “Au Naturel,” “Afterglow,” and “Balsam Fir.”

What amazing colors, huh!

    1. I may do some kits. I have quite a bit of left over yarn from my sweater (all the colorwork colors, because I had full skeins of each). I just need to contact the ladies at TinCanKnits to make sure it’s okay. So, stay tuned 😀
