NYSW Sneak Peak: Verglas by Amy Herzog & CustomFit!

Verglas is a brand new pattern by Amy Herzog, debuting at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival.

Swatch for Verglas, by Amy Herzog

Amy designed Verglas in my new yarn base, Zalti, which is a 100% U.S. grown and processed Targhee worsted weight. I can’t tell you how much I absolutely LOVE this yarn. It’s wooly, but smooth and soft enough that I wear it right up against my skin. It has great structure, minimal pilling, works so well for cables and other stitch patterns but also looks fantastic in plain stockinette. I’ll have a few samples to show off in the booth (one of which is Thea Colman’s beautiful sweater, Dark & Stormy; stay tuned for a blog post about this gorgeous sweater, too).

Verglas is still in transit from the test knitter, so we have just a teaser for you today. You’ll have to come by the STF Booth to see this awesome sweater in person!

Design for Verglas, with cable swatches. Doesn’t this look SO awesome?! Zalti is SO FANTASTIC for cables; I cannot wait to see this sweater in real life!

Zalti is making its official debut at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival this year, and I’ll have this fabulous base in over 20 colors at the show! It will be up online as soon as I can get it there after I return from the Festival, and is definitely a permanent addition to my yarn line.

Amy’s designs are sophisticated, fun, timeless, and beautiful. Add to that mix the fact that you can put your own individual measurements into her CustomFit website and generate a pattern just for your body? What a winning combination!

I’ve used the Custom Pattern option on Amy’s CustomFit website quite a few times, and all my sweaters are perfect. She even has YouTube tutorials on how to take your measurements, to make sure they’re accurate.

Amy and I have worked together many times over the years, so there are a slew of sweaters designed using STF yarns. Yet another awesome detail of the CustomFit site is that you can use any of her patterns in just about any gauge. Just input your body measurements and your gauge swatch measurements into the site and voila! A totally individual pattern for your body, in the yarn of your choosing.

Above: Clockwise from upper left, a few of the sweaters Amy has designed in Spirit Trail Fiberworks’ yarns: Alta in STF Birte, Bridgefield in STF Verdande, Burnish in STF Vesta, Hakone in STF Sunna, Tucci in STF Brigantia, Mine Hill in STF Birte

At a recent trunk show, shoppers were so excited by the yarn weight option on the site. They loved the sweaters, but some wanted a heavier weight while others wanted lighter. They were stoked when they read the back of the sample cards and saw all the info for different weight yarns and different sizes. Totally adjustable and individualized, CustomFit is really cool.

CustomFit is an amazing tool. I’ll have a limited number of CustomFit coupons in the booth, free with qualifying yarn purchase, which can be used for any of Amy’s designs on the CustomFit site. Or, design your own completely unique pattern with the CustomFit sweater using the Custom Pattern option; the coupon is good for that, too!

I’ll post some real life photos of this beautiful new design as soon as I can!
