“Opposites Attract” Shop Update is Live!

The last shop update of 2017 is now live at Spirit Trail Fiberworks!

This update features two brand new bases: Aurora, a fingering weight 100% superwash Merino singly ply, and Zaftig, a super bulky 100% Fine Merino single ply. They’re on opposite ends of the yarn weight spectrum and the alphabet, one is superwash and the other is not. Aurora is svelt and fine; Zaftig is voluptuous and plush. But that’s where their opposite qualities end. They both have a wonderful hand, quiet sheen, take dye like a dream, knit up into wonderful garments and accessories, and are next-to-skin soft.

A selection of colors on Zaftig

I really, really love how both of these bases take dye. Aurora has a little bit of a halo, and lovely sheen. Colors really pop on it, in both speckles and tonal solids. Zaftig is so chunky that speckles spread out a bit and merge into one another, creating more of a variegated look instead of pops of color (but, some speckle pops survive). Zaftig is very similar to Malabrigo Rasta, if you’re familiar with that base.

There are a lot more colors of both in the shop, although quantities of Zaftig are more limited and it’s selling pretty quickly.

Also new in my Etsy shop are more hand-painted silk scarves, which I just love. They are so warm and soft, and really quite perfect. My favorite size is the 35″ x 84,” because it’s so light I can crunch is up around my neck in cold weather, and wear it as a light shawl in hot weather.

And, lastly, I’ve added some new inventory to my On Sale page, 20 – almost 50% off. You may know how I feel about single skeins and ends of dyelots (I’m sure I’ve complained about them enough ;-D ), so check out the sale page for some good deals on great yarn.

New Design! Verglas

Amy Herzog has just released her new pattern, Verglas, which is designed and knit in Spirit Trail Zalti.

Knitters had a sneak peek of this pattern in my booth at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival, which is a gorgeous, stylish-yet-relaxed pullover with beautiful cabling and a fun neckline.

Amy and I have teamed up to offer kits for this pattern in Zalti, available now in my Etsy shop. The kits come in 4 sizes, and each includes a coupon for the pattern on Amy’s CustomFit website.

The pattern is also available on Ravelry.

I’ve added a slew of color options for the kits in my Etsy Shop, as well as Au Naturel, the natural, undyed soft white, which can be ordered as is, or to special order a color not already included as a kit option (just include the color you want in the comments on your order).

Zalti, clockwise from upper left: Au Naturel, Midnight Oil, Shadow, Hot Buttered Rum, and Black Cherry

Zalti, left-right, top-bottom: Glacier, Fog, Retro, Eggplant, Glass Bottom Boat, Scarlett

All kits have a small discount for the yarn, plus a free pattern coupon, so this is definitely a savings versus purchasing them separately.

I really want to knit this sweater. I tried the sample on at NYSW, and it’s so comfortable! My only problem is deciding which color I want to knit it in!
